Shared vision promotes progress in Sioux Falls

2013-14 Chair of the Board
Keith Severson, Eide Bailly LLP

One of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber's of Commerce unique strengths is our ability to convene all the right people needed to develop and implement a shared vision for our community. The people gathered around the table each month at our board of directors meetings represent businesses of all sizes and key economic sectors as well as our local government entities. At these meetings we talk about our community's successes, we share challenges and we discuss how we can enhance our community and our organization for our members.

We've been told by other communities that Sioux Falls' and South Dakota's strong fiscal management and tax structure enables us to do things that others can't. In fact, community leaders from Billings, Mont, who recently visited Sioux Falls, repeated that over and over throughout their whirlwind tour of our city. Because of the time they spent with our community leaders here, Billings leaders are evaluating strategies at their state and local levels to help create economic development opportunities for their community and area.

Sioux Falls has characteristics that any community would envy: an excellent quality of life, solid infrastructure, dependable tax base, progressive citizens, and engaged community leaders. Perhaps it's the mindset we have that a rising tide lifts all boats that makes our community enviable. Ensuring that our community has the means to maintain our infrastructure and enhance our quality of life is one of our Chamber's top priorities and reasons behind our advocacy efforts.
