Levitt Shell Update

Nancy Halverson, Executive Director of the Levitt Shell Sioux Falls, gave an update to City Council on the progress of the project. With construction scheduled to be completed in mid-May and the first concert less than 5 weeks away, here is what we know about the Levitt Shell Sioux Falls.

City proposes a new water service material

At the City Council Informational on Tuesday, city staff presented a potential new water service material to replace currently used copper. This new material named PEXa is a form of polyethylene with cross-links to improve durability.

City announces additional supplemental appropriationsappropriation

On Tuesday night, City Council heard a first reading on several additional projects funded by available surplus dollars. These projects followed the $1 million already set aside for the acquisition of flood prone homes near Tomar park approved on April 23rd.

County Commission authorizes the Agreement of Participation with Avera PACE

The Minnehaha County Commission approved an agreement with Avera PACE that that will allow the county to purchase supplies and fixtures at a significantly reduced rate – in some cases as much as 80 percent.

U.S. District Court struck down IM-24

U.S. District Judge Charles Kornmann issued an order on Thursday declaring Initiated Measure 24 as unconstitutional because it violates "the First Amendment rights to engage in political speech and to associate it with others to fund political speech."

Thune receives U.S. Chamber's Spirit of Enterprise Award

On Friday morning at the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, Senator John Thune accepted the Spirt of Enterprise Award presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Chamber’s prestigious Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to members of Congress based on their votes on critical business legislation as outlined in the Chamber’s How They Voted scorecard.

Elections to be held for two School Board seats

An election to fill two seats on the Sioux Falls School Board will be held Tuesday, May 21. The seats currently held by Kent Alberty and Carly Reiter expire in June. Reiter is seeking reelection and is joined in the race by Sarah K. Anderson, Nan Baker and Lora Hubbel.
